Art and Environment Ministry
One of the most vital and creative of all the liturgical ministries is that of the church environment. Because the assembly gathers in the presence of God, the climate of our liturgical celebrations and our worship as a community is one of mystery, wonder, thanksgiving and praise. Our church decorating should reflect these qualities and strive always to capture that which is most beautiful and helps us to more fully and completely enter into prayer. The imagination, creativity and giftedness of many people are essential to creating a worship environment that is both hospitable and prayerful. There is always need of creative leaders to help enhance our church environment, as well as many helpers who can assist by putting up and taking down decorations and banners. Please refer to contact section for those interested.
Bereavement
This ministry helps families who have lost a love one. Bereavement can be devastating and support from friends and parish family can make a vital difference in a mourner’s recovery. First Friday Devotions
The First Friday of each month was designated by our Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His Sacred Heart. This devotion helps to show love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and to atone for His rejection by man. The First Friday devotions include: The Sacrament of Reconciliation, taking part in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, adoration and reception of the Holy Eucharist, the act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Act of Reparation, and the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Many promises are attached to this adoration. Mass is the first Friday of every month at 8:30 am. and the prayers follow.
First Saturday Devotions:
In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three young shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. She instructed the children to tell the world to pray the rosary for peace. She also requested devotion to her Immaculate Heart and she specifically requested observance of five consecutive First Saturday’s of the month. On these first Saturdays the faithful are instructed to go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say 5 decades of the rosary and meditate on the mysteries of the rosary for 15 minutes. The promise of help at the hour of death as well as the necessary graces for salvation are attributed to this devotion. Mass is at 8:30 am on the first Saturday of each month.

Each family should register as members of the parish. Registration forms can be found in the Parish office. We warmly welcome and encourage all of our family members to register.
Religious Education/Faith Formation
The Church recognizes that parents are the primary educators of their children. As such, “parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church) As Christians we have been purchased by Christ, through His Life, Death and Resurrection. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To embrace the Faith He has passed down to us, we must know Him and understand His teachings. The purpose of all Catholic teaching is salvation in Jesus Christ. Our most fervent desire is that those we teach will fall in love with Jesus and embrace His truth so fully that they live His way, find life in Him and bring that life to all around them.
The mission of the Queen of Angels Religious Education Office is to offer a program of religious instruction for Catholic Students of our Parish attending the Public School system or in “Home Schooling” formats. The spiritual and educational needs of the parents of these students are also highly regarded. Catechist training is provided for our teacher volunteers.
Students are registered for the elementary program in September, on Sundays from 9:30 A.M. to 10:40 A.M. in the Queen of Angels School. Catechetical Training for Parish volunteers who wish to be Teachers-of-the-Faith is provided utilizing the Archdiocesan approved training program “Echoes of Faith.” The Elementary Religious Education Office organizes monthly Faculty meetings for volunteer Catechists and REAP meetings throughout the year.
The Religious Education/Faith Formation program consists of:

- MIDDLE SCHOOL (GRADES 6-8)

Knowledge of Christ’s truth and a personal relationship with Him are the greatest things one can obtain in life. The Catholic Church warmly welcomes new members. RCIA is the way in which adults are initiated into the Christian community and way of life. It is the process by which people become members of the Roman Catholic faith. Adult participants are invited to reflect on the Word of God in Sacred Scripture, on the teachings of the Catholic Church, and to share in the community’s life of public and private prayer. This process leads to the celebration of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist at Easter time.
- Faith Facts
This is a flexible lecture/discussion format for adults. It allows participants to discuss areas of interest about our faith.
- REMEMBERING
This is an eight-week program for Catholics who have been away from the Church and are thinking of coming back. Sacramental Preparation
- Baptism
Baptism bestows the grace of forgiveness and is the initiation into the Body of Christ. It is both a joyous and solemn occasion. In preparation for Baptism of their children, parents must attend pre-baptism classes to discuss their duties, responsibilities, and the meaning of the ceremony. Baptisms are conducted quarterly for infants through first grade. Registration for Baptism class and Baptisms can be arranged by contacting the parish office. Expectant parents are also encouraged to come. Parents must be registered parishioners. The Director of the Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation Team will give school age children special preparation classes. Regarding Baptism for older children, including high school youth, please contact the parish office. Adult Baptisms are handled through the RCIA Program.
- Confessions/ Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is an awesome gift, which Christ has left His Church, for the purpose of receiving continual mercy, healing and strength. Through this sacrament, we experience a personal encounter with Jesus, who forgives our sins. Many healings are continually being received through this sacrament. Reconciliation times may be found in the front section of this handbook
- First Eucharist/Communion
The true presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist is the highlight of every Mass. Preparation for this sacrament for children from grades 2 through 8 is handled through the Religious Education Department. For high school youth (grades 9 through 12), interested in preparing for this sacrament, contact the Youth Ministry Office. Adults who are interested in preparing for this sacrament are assisted through our RCIA program.
- Confirmation
The sacrament of Confirmation is a wonderful touching of our lives by the Power of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament permanently changes our souls and gives us the grace to live, and profess/defend the Faith. It is an active accepting of God into our lives to strengthen us just as he strengthened the Apostles on Pentecost. Preparation for juniors and seniors in High School is part of the Religious Education High School Program. Adult preparation is through RCIA.
- Sacrament of Matrimony/ Marriage
Engaged couples must contact the parish office at least four months in advance of any proposed wedding date to make arrangements for pre-marriage preparation and to register for the initial information session. At least one of the couple must be a registered member of the parish or have parents registered in the parish. Please contact the Wedding Coordinator at the parish office.
- Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is a sacrament of holy anointing with blessed oil by the priest, and through his prayers gives health and strength to the soul and sometime to the body. It was to cure the sick and console the afflicted that Our Lord worked many of His miracles. The Gospels give many examples of Jesus preaching and healing (Matt 4:23) (Luke 4:40) and sending His Apostles to do the same. (Mark 6:13) (James 5:14-15)
The sacrament of the Sick is for the seriously ill or for pre-surgery anointing. Anointing of the sick is done 24 hours a day. Please call the rectory at anytime if you wish to receive the sacraments or have this anointing. Please notify the parish of a hospitalization so that the priest/parish can be of assistance.
- Sacrificial Giving
God has blessed each person with gifts and talents. We can act as faithful disciples by sharing our gifts with others. The options for this are plentiful: family life, work, Parish ministries, and community volunteering. Also, scriptural principle is to tithe, or give back to God, 10% of your “treasure.” All members of the Parish are urged to give back a portion of the gifts of time, talent and treasure, which have been bestowed upon us by our Loving Father.
- Sacristy and Altar Care
A sacristan is a volunteer who sets up and prepares the altar for Eucharist.

To advertise a business, call the Catholic Printery 1 (800) 867-0660.

Ushers
Ushers have long provided the service of hospitality in our Sunday assemblies and other special liturgical celebrations. Responsibilities include: greeting, handing out bulletins, assisting the congregation with seating, approaching the altar table for Communion, and taking up the collection. He/she is the one who helps people to believe that their presence in the assembly is important and welcome. Young adults and both men and women are invited to share in this ministry. More senior ushers provide training and guidance.
Young Adult Group (Ages 18 – 35)
The goal of this group is to become Christian Young Adults, and to provide opportunities for fellowship, spiritual growth, continued education and service. Singles and couples are welcome. For those interested, please call the parish office.
Youth Group (High School)
Teens of high school age (grades 9 – 12) share prayer, worship, friendship, faith and life experiences during Youth Group activities, the CYO convention and retreats. All youth of our parish are encouraged to participate and bring friends to join in the fun.
A SVDP (St. Vincent de Paul) Mission Team is being developed for high school students and young adults of the parish. The purpose of the group is to live out the Bible message of James 2:14 “…faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Mexico is one of the Mission sites working with SVDP members in Tijuana, where the group repairs homes, visits orphanages and much more. For more information call the Youth Minister.
Vacation Bible School
An opportunity for summer fun and learning is offered for youth in grades 1-6. This ecumenical program offers music, games, bible study, and art. The session is offered for one week in the summer. Volunteers are always welcome. For information contact the Pastoral Assistant for Elementary Religious Education at the rectory office.

World Youth Day
The Holy Father, John Paul II has called the youth and young people from around the world to come together to worship, study and to love one another in Solidarity, in the Roman Catholic Church. This event is held every 2-3 years in different places throughout the world. The year 2000 will be the 15th World Youth Day, held in Rome, Italy. The Holy Father assures the youth and young adults that they are the Church NOW-not of the future.
We have had young people from our parish attend 1994 in Denver, Colorado and in 1997 in Paris, France. Plans are being generated for WYD 2000 in Rome. The spiritual, educational and cultural value of the event is so exhilarating that it is nearly indescribable.
